Located between the picturesque settings of Satpura and Vindhya mountain ranges, Bandhavgarh National Park is the most sought after Tiger Reserve. It has the highest density of Tigers and plentiful species of flora and fauna within its boundaries. Alongside the colossal Royal Bengal Tiger, you can come across the Leopards, Jackals, Dholes and a variety of Deer species. Nevertheless, there are bountiful birds that sing your way to amaze you inside the deep forests.
Together with the abundant wildlife, Bandhavgarh National Park boasts of historical significance. According to mythology, Bandhavgarh was a gift received by Lakshmana from his beloved brother Lord Sri Rama. Historically, the forests were the hunting grounds of The Kings of Rewa. It is believed that these kings hunted the first White Tiger in the forest. The presence of Bandhavgarh Fort and several natural and man-made caves inside the forest, make the area travellers’ paradise for exploration and photography.
Your stay is at a quaint little resort with individual cottages. Abundant birding opportunities at the resort between the safaris and free time. If you bring your macro lens, you might be able to see the small world. Lot’s of spiders, butterflies, insects and many myriad creatures to keep you engaged with.
The food at the resort is lip smacking and you would enjoy the local cuisine as well. The resort also arranges for folk dance to get a taste of local culture.
We have experienced jeep drivers and guide who know exactly how to track the bigger fauna. Highly experienced and sharp ears keep their senses on toes.
The ideal time to visit Bandhavgarh National Park to spot the Tigers and make classy photographs is during winters between October and March. The Tigers come out of their dens in the sunlight to warm themselves to spend the winters with ease. This is when they give us ample time to be behind them and capture their behavioural patterns in their natural habitat.
The Tiger Reserve is divided into three zones – Tala, Magdi and Kithuali. The entire forest range has mixed vegetation from tall grasslands to thick Sal trees. Entering the Tala zone, you will visit Sidda Baba temple as a ritual to seek the blessings of the deity to grant the sightings of the Tigers. While you finish praying, you may immediately sight cubs playing in the grass away from the safari track.
You may have the opportunity to track the pug marks of Kajari Tigress of the region who can be hiding anywhere within the bushes. You may hear calls from a Barking Deer or a Langur to change your direction of search while tracing the Big Cats. There can be the cubs of Solo, another Tigress roaming here and there.
In the Magdi zone, Dotty’s cubs may be found chasing a Deer or playing in the water hole of the region. The proximity of the Tigers in the reserve is cherishing times for the cameras to click them in different postures and learn about them. When you have enough photographs taken of the Tigers, the temple of Sheshashaiya is located in the middle of the forest to pray for the safety of wildlife.
