Goa – In the rains
Sep 2019 | 2N/3D | Rs. 16,500
A lovely trek into the misty rainforests lead us to a magical plateau. We were in search of the Saw-scaled viper. Turning over the rocks on the completely mist covered plateau was an experience in its own. After a while of searching, we finally sighted the reptile. Amazing, beautiful, yet an aggressive snake, this viper was. It was an effort and time well spent. A sighting that will surely be etched in the memories of all the participants.

In the Rains
Nestled in the Western Ghats, Goa is not only a place for the famous beaches but also perfect place for a weekend get-away. But don’t get us wrong; this trip is not for the regulars who are looking for weekend siesta at the beaches of Goa. It’s going to be run on heels for all three days photographing the excellent bio-diversity of the thick forests of Goa.
All through the Western Ghats, the forest keeps us busy day and night with its variety of frogs, snakes, caecilians and bioluminescent fungi. On this expedition, we’ll look for the beautiful yet fearsome snakes like the Malabar Pit Viper and we’ll watch out in the thick vegetation for stunning Green Vine Snakes and look out for the Saw-scaled viper.
In between the rains, keep an eye out on the forest floor. The colourful fungi on the ground make for patient photography subjects. In addition, if it gets warm enough, then get prepared to entertain yourself with the splendid display of butterflies amongst which is the spectacular Southern Birdwing – India’s largest! Overall, it’s a photographer’s delight and we’ll help you make the most of all the opportunities we get.
Day 1 – Sep 13th (Fri)
Arrive at Margo or Goa airport and we will head to the resort by a pre-arranged cab. Upon reaching there after checkin, we will have a brief session on what our next three day’s going to be. Post breakfast, we will take a small stroll in the plantation observing the myriad forms of wildlife subjects.
Keep yourself warmed up after dinner! These are peak hours in the rainforest and we’ll embark on our night walk around the camp to observe the nocturnal activities of frogs, snakes and other insects.
Day 2 – Sep 14th (Sat)
Today we’ll rise nice and early. During breakfast, we’ll recap our sightings from previous night walk and discuss the tips/tricks on macro photography in detail. After a sumptuous breakfast we head out for a morning nature walk nearby to look for any wildlife, fungi, and butterflies. Once you’re tired, and trust us – you will be tired; we’ll return to the resort for a brief review of your photographs.
After lunch and a power nap, we’ll proceed for the evening trail. Around dinner, we’ll review your images from the day and get ready for our second night walk.
Day 3 – Sep 15th (Sun)
This is our last day at Goa and we’ll visit a plateau ecosystem. After our final haul in the forest, we’ll return to the resort for lunch followed by our last image review and post processing session. Our cab should be ready to drop us at Margao or the Goa airpot where participants will take their respective modes of transport to reach home – until of course, Birdwing brings us together again.
